Equipment :  1 game board, 15 tokens of each color, 5 dice and 1 pouch.

Description : Backgammon is a board game played on a board divided into 24 triangles called points. The game of backgammon is a board or table game formerly known as "Jacket" and even older as "tabula". Each player has 15 pieces of his color in a specific arrangement on the board. The main objective of the game is to move all of his pieces to his home board and then remove them from the board.

Pawn movement is based on the roll of two six-sided dice. Players take turns moving their pawns around the board. Pawns can move to empty spots, spots occupied by their own pawns, or spots occupied by a single opposing pawn (called a "blot" spot). When a player has two or more of their own pawns on a spot, it is secure and cannot be occupied by the opponent.

Backgammon also features more advanced tactics, including capturing opponent's pieces (hitting), building barricades to block the opponent's advance, and the concept of a bar where hit pieces are placed when their owner must begin advancing them again.

The first player to remove all of his checkers from the board wins the game. If a player manages to remove all of his checkers before his opponent has removed any, he wins in gammon (doubling the stakes) and if he manages to remove all of his checkers while his opponent still has checkers on the home board or on the bar, he wins in backgammon (tripling the stakes).

Backgammon, very popular in the Mediterranean, is today played in federations and in official tournaments, in Copenhagen, Cyprus, Las Vegas or Istanbul, and the prestigious world championships are held every year in Monte Carlo, during the month of August.

The origins of Backgammon : Backgammon is one of the oldest games in history! The board and rules, as we know them, were revised in the 1950s, but the origins of Backgammon date back to 5000 BC, in Mesopotamia! This explains why this game is so popular throughout the Mediterranean basin, such as in Iran, Turkey, Greece, Israel, Syria, Lebanon, etc. Indeed, a game very similar to backgammon was discovered in the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun (15th century BC). It is one of the oldest games of humanity.
