Players : 2 or in teams.

Equipment : 1 chessboard with 64 squares. (parts or accessories sold separately).

Dimensions : 43 x 43 x 2 cm, 17" x 17" x 0.75" ( dimensions may vary by +-5%) .

Materials : Made of Canadian hardwood in dark and light colors, maple, cherry, black walnut, or other on request. Oiled finish.

Options : Choice of wood species and square markers. Standard sizes or on request. A wide selection of chess or checkers pieces available at various prices.

Description : The game of chess actually originated in northern India and Pakistan, and its history dates back about 1500 years. The rules of chess evolved over the centuries, particularly in Spain and Italy, to take its current form in the late 15th century.

Chess is a strategy game that pits two players against each other, each controlling an army of different pieces, the king, queen, rooks, bishops, knights and pawns, all of these pieces have their own specific moves making the game complex and rich in strategy. The objective is to use these pieces in such a way as to put the opponent's king in check, therefore threatened with capture. If the king is put in check and there is no way to protect it, it is checkmate, the game is over and the player in check has lost.

Chess provides an exciting intellectual challenge while promoting the development of skills such as strategic planning, critical thinking and decision making. It can be played at home, at the cottage, at the campsite or in chess clubs, or even online and is also ideal for long winter evenings.
